What is the Best Time to do Devotion, and the Reason Behind it

Early morning hour

  • The Psalmist encourages praying in the early morning hour

” My voice shall thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up”. Psalm 5:3.

  • Jesus Christ also encourages early morning hours.

” Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went to a solitary place, where he prayed”. Mark 1:35 NIV.

Reason Behind Observing Devotion in Early Morning Hour

  • The devil is an early riser.
  • In the early morning, the mind is still free and empty.
  • People are still asleep.
  • Man’s heart can easily connect to God before the world wakes up.
  • You can easily take over your day.
  • And charges your spiritual battery before you come out in the morning.

What are the Hindrance to Quiet Time?

  1. General body weakness/ Fatigue:

General body weakness is the feeling of reduced strength in the whole body. It is caused by not taking good care of your body, overusing yourself at work, illness, and low blood pressure. The solution to this:

    Solution:
Don’t overstress yourself during the day.
Get a helping hand, Close on time.
    Rest and exercise your body.
Go for a medical check-up and get treated for any infection causing it.
This will help you determine whether your struggle is a spiritual matter or something that medical attention can address.
  2. Sleep and slumber/ late-night sleep:

” But while men slept, his enemy came, sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. That is one of the devices used by the devil. He makes sure you are not connected to your maker. So, he makes use of the flesh to make you a blind and ignorant watchman. He quickly uses this opportunity to carry out his fetish motive against you, Isaiah 56:10. Here is a way out to this:

    Solution:
    Stop watching late-night movies.
Try to sleep early to wake up early.
Get an alarm clock, and when it goes on, don’t ignore it.
When you wake up, brush your teeth, wash your face, or have your bath.
If you’re still sleepy, walk around and pray out the spirit of sleep and slumber.
  3. Distraction:

“It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before my eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying” Job 4:16. The devil is very cunning. So, as a child of God, you must outsmart him by doing away with things that can distract your attention before the Lord. Our God loves orderliness when people are before Him. So, when he communicates, you can hear Him clearly and soundly. Here are some things you should do:

    Solution:
Switch off your television set, radio, and phones.
Don’t cook while observing your devotion. It may divide your mind.
Don’t play with objects or listen to music. Let there be total silence to concentrate.
  4. Eating heavy meals:

Eating meals that are not easily digestible can wreck our spiritual lives, slowing down our prayer life and this makes the devil take advantage of the night hour against us. Here are some ways to tackle that:

    Solution:
Don’t take heavy meals before bed, and if you must do it 3-4 hours before bedtime.
Instead, eat a light meal that is easily digestible.
    Take fruit and drink water.
  5. Inconsistence:

Your lack of persistence can stop the presence of the Lord. If you want the manifestation of the presence of the Lord in your devotion time, then you must be consistent in observing it every day. If you’re too forgetful, here are what to do to remind yourself:

    Solution:
  • Pray the Holy Spirit to remind you.
  • Schedule your alarm time and calendar, and don’t skip it for anything except you went for vigil. It is a date with your maker keep it.
